Do You Use the Internet?
If you use the Internet for business or pleasure, it is important to understand that your online activities can have criminal implications. The music you listen to or trade, the ideas you communicate, images or videos you post, or the contents of your hard drive or the people with whom you interact can all have important repercussions far beyond your computer.
I can assist you with matters including:
- Internet sex crimes — Internet child pornography, solicitation of a minor
- Internet fraud — Embezzlement, identity theft, financial crimes, Internet theft
- Intellectual property rights issues
- Illegal downloading
- Intranet security breaches
- White collar crime and fraud
If you suspect you are under investigation for computer fraud or any other cyber crime, please contact us immediately. We have been active in Internet law since 1999 and successfully prosecuted of the first cases in Maryland against a company sending unsolicited commercial bulk email, otherwise known as “spammers.” As in all criminal defense matters, early intervention is critical.
A Leader in Internet Law
I have studied, written, and worked in the emerging field of Internet law since the early 1990s. I have extensive experience working with computers and the legal issues that arrive from such activity. As the Internet is a medium that crosses national and international boundaries, often rendering distance meaningless, the question of legal jurisdiction is an important threshold question. This singular issue about the power of any jurisdiction to entertain a lawsuit prompted me to examine the issue of jurisdiction over the Internet. In response, I wrote an article on Internet law and commerce, “It’s A Small World After All: Personal Jurisdiction, the Internet and the Global Marketplace,” published in the Maryland Journal of International Law and Commerce.
